Johari Windows.
The Johari Window was invented by Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingram in the 1950s as a model for mapping personality awareness. By describing yourself from a fixed list of adjectives, then asking your friends and colleagues to describe you from the same list, a grid of overlap and difference can be built up.

I, like unto Georgie, have swooped in to steal this idea for my own LJ. I, on the other hand, hope you mind greatly! (Last sentence added to give a real-time example of your recent post about the limited expressiveness that is allowed through computer communication. Sarcasm can be an awful form of humor via email-ish communication because there are no vocal tones or facial expressions to highlight the fact that it is sarcasm.)
